BCRC China Successfully Held The 15th International Conference on Solid Waste Management and Technology

From June 28 to 30, 2020, the 15th International Conference on solid waste management and Technology (ICWMT15, also known as 2020 Global Waste Forum) was successfully held online. The conference, themed with "To Build a Zero-waste city Systematically", is sponsored by Tsinghua University, the Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, United Nations Environment Programme, Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity-building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific. The organizer include Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China), Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area Administrative Committee, and etc.. 188 officials, experts and scholars at home and abroad were invited to attend the meeting and deliver reports. The plenary meeting and 23 branch sessions were held including Zero-waste City High Level Forum. During the ICWMT15, 8 representatives from United Nations and intergovernmental agencies attended and deliver reports. More than 4563 delegates from 42 countries and regions attended the meeting. At the opening ceremony, Hao Jiming, Chairman of the Scientist Committee of ICWMT15 and Academician of Chinese Academy of engineering, Qiu Qiwen, Director of BCRC China, Director of Department of Solid Waste and Chemicals, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, Academician Du Xiangwan, Chairman of the Advisory Expert Committee of the pilot Zero-waste Cities construction and former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Tu Ruihe, Representative of UNEP China Office, and Mr. Wang Shaofeng, Secretary of Beijing EconomicTechnological Development Area Working Committee of the Communist Party of Beijing Municipal Committee, delivered opening remarks. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Li Jinhui, Executive Director of BCRC China, professor in School of Environment, Tsinghua University. At the plenary session, 30 experts delivered wonderful reports in total on the following topics, such as management and practice of zero-waste city, technology innovation of zerowaste city, hazardous waste safety control and plastic prevention and control.
