Fourth Meeting of Steering Committee of Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific was successfully held

Fourth Meeting of Steering Committee of Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific was successfully held online on 28th June, 2021. Totally 20 participants attended the meeting, including Steering Committee members from Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, Permanent Mission of DPR Korea in Geneva, and Ministry of Environment of Sri Lanka, observers from Secretariat of Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, and Chinese environmental protection companies and staffs from BCRC China. Ms. Abiola Olanipekun, representative of Secretariat of Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, gave the opening address, and Ms. Haijun Chen, the Director from Division of Ecological and Environmental Conventions, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, gave the welcome address. They congratulated BCRC China for demonstrating an excellent performance in assisting Parties in implementing their obligations under the Conventions and for advancing the synergies in the implementation of chemicals and waste Multilateral Environmental Agreements, and praised the achievement of BCRC China respectively. Mr. Sophal Dyakanal from Ministry of Environment of Cambodia was the chair of this meeting. Ms. Chen Yuan, the head of Regional Chemical Management Branch of BCRC China, and Mr. Dong Qinying, the head of Regional Waste Management Branch of BCRC, respectively reported the work done under the Basel Convention and the Stockholm Convention, the status of implementation of the Strategic Plan of BCRC China (2017-2030) since the third meeting, and the amended Business Plan 2020-2023 of BCRC China under the Basel Convention and the Stockholm Convention. The Steering Committee members adopted the decisions recommended in meeting document.
