Jiming HAO is Chairman of the Scientific Committee of International Conference on Waste Management and Technology, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Foreign academician of National Academy of Engineering. He is Dean and Professor of Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University. He graduated from Tsinghua University with a bachlor’s degree in 1970, received a master's degree from Tsinghua University in 1981, and received a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1984.
The main research areas are Energy and Environment, Air Pollution Control Engineering. He has hosted national acid deposition control planning and countermeasure research, and played a leading role in determining the countermeasures against acid rain in China.He established urban motor vehicle pollution control planning methods to promote the process of motor vehicle pollution control in China. He has in-depth researched on the characteristics, causes and control strategies of atmospheric composite pollution has developed theories and technical methods for air quality improvement in megacities, and promoted joint prevention and control of regional atmospheric composite pollution in China. He has won one national first prize for scientific and technological progress, two second prizes and one national second prize for natural sciences. In 2015, he won the Hagen Smith Clean Air Award.
