On June 8th, 2023, the final workshop of "Sino-Norwegian Cooperation - Capacity Building for Marine Plastic Waste and Microplastic Management" project (Hereinafter referred to as "Project") was successfully held in Beijing. The meeting was organized by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China) and attended by nearly 40 representatives from both Norway and China. The meeting included an opening ceremony, technical exchanges, and project evaluations.

Professor Li Jinhui, the Executive Director of BCRC China, chaired the opening ceremony. Speakers included Mr. Tom Knappskog, Minister Counsellor of the Norwegian Embassy in China, Ms. Yang Xiaoling, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department of the MEE, Mr. Wen Xuefeng, Deputy Director General of Department of the Solid Wastes and Chemicals, and Ms. Elin Økstad, Specialist Director of the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment. Mr. Thorjørn Larssen, Deputy Director of the Norwegian Institute for Water Research, reviewed the history of environmental cooperation between China and Norway.

The technical exchange session was chaired by Ms. Zhao Nana, the Assistant Executive Director of BCRC China, Dr. Chen Yuan, Director of the Regional Chemicals Management Office of BCRC China, introduced the project's overall implementation and its international and domestic impact. Representatives from all the project partners reported on their research topics and achievements. All parties praised the project's contribution to improving China's marine plastic waste and microplastic management capabilities as the first bilateral project to coordinate land and sea plastic pollution prevention and control in China.
