On July 14, 2023, the kick-off meeting of the project "Research on the Current Situation, Problems and Response Ideas of China's Plastic Pollution Prevention and Control Throughout the Life Cycle" was held at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University in Beijing, which was attended by nearly 20 participants, including the representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China (MOFA), Think Tank Center at Tsinghua University, and experts and members of the project research team.

The meeting was hosted by Professor Li Jinhui, Executive Director of BCRC China. Yang Zhusong, Assistant Director of Tsinghua University's Think Tank Center, gave the opening remarks, and Dr. Chen Yuan, Director of Regional Chemicals Management Office of BCRC China, introduced the project approach, after which the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expert reviewers provided comments and suggestions on the project approach.

This project is one of the research tasks of the national high-end think tank in 2023 and coordinated and managed by the Institute of National and Global Governance of Tsinghua University. It aims to review China's existing policies and control actions in the field of plastics pollution control, investigate the current status of pollution control of the whole life cycle of China's plastics industry, conduct the comparative analysis of the current situation of the industry domestically and internationally, assess the development level of China's plastics industry and evaluate the effectiveness of the policies on plastic, and finally put forward suggestions for China to actively contribute to the Plastics Convention.
