On March 22, 2024, the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific and Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity-building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific (BCRC/SCRC China) and the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for the South American Region, Argentina (BCRC Argentina) successfully held an online discussion on bilateral cooperation, with the participation of 10 representatives from the two regional centres. Ms. Zhao Nana, Assistant Director of BCRC/SCRC China, and Mr. Alberto Santos Capra, Director of BCRC Argentina, delivered speeches respectively, both of them expressed their expectation for the two sides to carry out close and in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the future.

During this meeting, representatives from both sides introduced the specific functions, project activities, capacity building, regional implementation work and sustainable development planning of their respective centres. Concurrently, Dr. Shan Guijuan, deputy director of the Institute of "Zero-waste City" Construction of BCRC/SCRS China, introduced the progress and achievements of the "Zero-waste City" network and invited BCRC Argentina to become a co-initiator of the international network and carry out relevant work collectively. In addition, the representatives of both sides engaged detailed discussions regarding solid waste and chemical management, information exchange and sharing, regional cooperation, the construction of "Zero-waste City", as well as the issues confronted by regional centres, and reached a preliminary consensus on future cooperation.

This meeting has laid the groundwork for the subsequent cooperation between the two sides. The two sides will enhance cooperation on solid waste management experience and regional implementation of the Basel Convention, and jointly contribute wisdom and experience to global solid waste and chemicals management.
