From November 04th to05th, 2019, Reducing Marine Plastic Waste-Shanghai Forum 2019 was held in Shanghai, China. Co-sponsored by East China Normal University and UNESCO regional training and research centre for Marine plastic waste and microplastics of the intergovernmental oceanographic commission, Reducing Marine Plastic Waste-Shanghai Forum 2019 was held in Chongming, Shanghai. Nearly 100 delegates attended the forum, including UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, UN Environment Programme, and government officials, business leaders, experts and scholars from France, Thailand and China. The forum systematically exchanged domestic and international efforts and experiences on marine plastic waste from the aspects of scientific research and planning, management and policy regulations, international convention implementation, garbage classification practice and recycling economy innovative solutions, in order to Jointly explore the challenges, opportunities and strategies for addressing the problem of plastic waste in the ocean, and to promote the reduction of plastic waste, the recycling economy of plastic, the classification of household waste, and the sustainable life cycle management of plastic. Dr. Yuan Chen gave a plenary talk on Marine Plastic Waste Management under the Framework of the International Environmental Convention and introduced the SINOPLAST project during her speech.
