This course introduces the Technical Guidelines on the Environmentally Sound Management of Biomedical and Healthcare Waste adopted by the Sixth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention in December 2002. The course is mainly introduced in the following six areas: general definition of biomedical and healthcare waste, hazards of biomedical and healthcare waste, application area/source identification, waste identification and classification/waste category, application of advanced management, treatment and disposal technologies, waste management audit and capacity building.
