The National Training Workshop for Enforcement Officers on Combating Illegal Trade in Chemicals and Waste

The National Training Workshop for Enforcement Officers on Combating Illegal Trade in Chemicals and Waste organized by UNEP and Royal Malaysia Customs Department was held on 5-8 September 2016 in Malacca, Malaysia. The overall objectives of the workshop was to increase institutional capacity of the enforcement agencies on combating illegal trade in waste and chemicals, provide enforcement officers with practical skills in identification of wastes and chemicals and promote coordination between Malaysia and European countries, etc. The workshop invited experts from UNEP, IMPEL, RILOAP, GRID-ARENDAL BCRC China, and over 30 representatives Malaysia Customs, port authorities, environmental inspectors, police etc. Ms. Lixia Zheng from BCRC China attended the workshop and made a presentation “Introduction on Chemicals and Waste Related Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs)”. The workshop adopted the training mode experts’ representation practice, and the contents of included international conventions implementation, inspection methods and security matters, take-back requirements, etc., effectively the carrying out of policies regulations and practical operation ability of the officers.
