The 19th International Conference on Waste Management andTechnology Was Successfully Held

 From May 18 to 20, 2024, the 19th International Conference on Waste Management and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the "Conference") was successfully held in Binjiang District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. With the theme of "Building a 'Zero-Waste City' to achieve pollution reduction and carbon reduction", the conference aims to promote industry exchanges in the field of solid waste, accelerate the construction of a "Zero-Waste City", and promote the construction of an international "Zero-Waste City" network. The conference was hosted by Tsinghua University, UNEP Representative Office in China, Zhejiang Gongshang University and other organizations, organized by 7 organizations including Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific and Hangzhou Binjiang Environmental Development Co., LTD., and co-organized and supported by 20 organizations.
The conference consisted of a 3-day general assembly, English parallel Assembly, 45 chapters, technical visits, corporate exhibitions and supply and demand matchmaking sessions. There were more than 1,100 offline participants and online participants from 30 countries including the UK, Singapore and Bangladesh. A total of 6,890,700 people from all walks of life watched the conference cloud online.
The Conference opened on the morning of May 18th. Li Jinhui, Chairman of the Conference, Tenured Professor of the School of Environment of Tsinghua University, and Executive Director of the Basel Convention Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific, presided over the opening ceremony, and six people, including Huan Jinyuan, Vice Mayor of Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches respectively. The conference organized the "Zero-Waste City" construction management and practice, solid waste resources and pollution reduction and carbon reduction coordination, student seminars and other 45 chapters, mainly around the "Zero-Waste City", "carbon neutrality", circular economy, bulk solid waste, domestic waste, organic solid waste, hazardous waste, emerging solid waste, emerging pollutants and other themes. Nearly 400 government officials, experts, scholars, business representatives and student representatives attended the session and made presentations on relevant topics.
