BCRC China/SCRCAP participates in the Seminar on Governance and Control of Marine Plastic Waste Pollution

On July 9, 2019, the Summer Institute for China's Green innovators (SICGl) series seminar project Governance and Control of Marine Plastic Waste Pollution was held at the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University. The seminar aimed at sharing the frontier science of marine plastic waste, discussing the measures taken by the international community and government, to deal with marine plastic waste pollution, and the institutional design of diversified entities involved in marine plastic waste management. The seminar was hosted by Ling Chen, associate professor of the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University and deputy director of the Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance (CIDEG) of Tsinghua University. Dr. Quanyin Tan, Director of Technology Department of Base Convention Regional Centre for the Asia-Pacific Region/ Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity Building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China/SCRCAP) and assistant researcher of School of Environment, Tsinghua University was invited to be present and give a speech on the seminar.

Dr. Quanyin Tan introduced the progress and trends of international management of marine plastic waste and plastic waste based on the context of the UN Environment Assembly and the process of the Basel Convention. He stressed that we need to promote the change of plastic production methods and consumption habits, and there is a need for joint efforts in various aspects of legislation, infrastructure construction and international cooperation.
