Introduction

With the enhancement of the public consciousness of environment protection, the management of chemicals and waste has attracted much attention. The Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China), jointly managed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) and Tsinghua university, has conducted a series of studies to address the problems existing in the management of chemicals and waste over the years. The series of books were published based on the outputs from these studies, which may be helpful to the manage personnel on chemicals and waste.

Following the publication of the "2013 Report on Pollution Prevention and Control of Solid Waste", BCRC China has compiled the outputs of important research during 2014 and 2015. The book consists of 25 chapters, covers hazardous waste, the control of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes, chemicals, electronic waste and other wastes.

The guidance and affirmation from Yingmin Zhao, the vice minister of MEP, has laid the foundation of the book. Also, the book was guided and supported by the Soil Environmental Management Department of MEP, the Solid Waste Management Division and Chemicals Environmental Management Division. In addition, the staff of BCRC China were actively involved in the compilation of the book.
