Administrative Measures for the Pollution Control for Electronic Information Products1

In order to control and reduce the environment pollution from waste electronic information products, promote the production and sales of electronic information productswith low pollution,andprotect the environment and human health, according to the relevant regulations of the “Cleaner Production Promotion Law of the People's Republic of China "and the “Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Waste”, “Administrative Measures for the Pollution Control for Electronic Information Products”(“Administrative Measures” for short) was released on February 28th, 2006, and came into force on March 1st , 2007.“Administrative Measures” has 27 articles in four chapters; the main content can be summarized as "one requirement and three provisions". One requirement is that the design and production of electronic and information products need to use environmental-friendly and easily recycled schemes; three provisionsare that electronic information products entering the market need to provide the information ofthe name of the harmful material and components, environmental protection use period and whether recyclable or not; the product which are listedin the key catalogueof electronic information products pollution control will be bannedor restricted the use of mixed poisonous and harmful material; harmful substances restricting and prohibiting of electronic information products will be bring into 3 C management.

1: The amendment of“Administrative Measures for the Pollution Control for Electronic Information Products”has been basically completed, is renamed as “Administrative Measures on the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment”, which will be forthcoming.
