    华东师范大学是由国家举办、教育部主管,教育部与上海市人民政府重点共建的综合性研究型大学。2006年教育部和上海市决定重点共建华东师范大学,学校进入国家"985工程"高校行列。2017年学校进入国家世界一流大学建设高校A类行列。
    河口海岸学国家重点实验室依托于华东师范大学,于1989年由国家计委批准筹建,1995年12月通过国家验收并正式向国内外开放。实验室总体定位为:围绕我国沿海经济带,特别是三大河口三角洲地区发展对河口海岸研究的迫切需求,结合我国河口海岸的区域特色,发挥实验室多学科交叉渗透和综合分析优势,利用高新技术手段,深入研究河口海岸地区的物理过程、化学过程、生物过程、地质过程以及这些过程间的相互作用和全球变化与人类活动对这些过程的影响,丰富和发展具有我国特色的河口海岸学科理论体系,同时为我国沿海地区资源开发、重大工程建设、环境保护及社会经济的可持续发展服务。实验室在流域入海物质通量变异及其对河口环境的影响、河口动力沉积过程及其在深水航道工程中的应用、河口三角洲沉积环境、淤泥质海岸冲淤演变及其工程应用、河口海岸生物地球化学过程海洋塑料污染等领域取得一批有重要影响和创新意义的研究成果。
    华东师范大学海洋塑料研究中心成立于2015年底,依托华东师范大学河口海岸学国家重点实验室,是国内第一个专门从事海洋微塑料监测技术与生态环境效应研究的基础研究平台,同时也开展海洋塑料垃圾污染相关法规政策研究,开展海洋环境保护方面的科普教育和公益宣传等活动。中心成员目前承担科技部国家重点研发计划“海洋微塑料监测和生态环境效应评估技术研究”项目和国家自然科学基金有关的海洋微塑料研究项目等多个国家级项目,与联合国教科文组织政府间海洋科学委员会合作成立“海洋塑料碎片和微塑料区域培训和研究中心”,并主持联合国教科文组织海洋科学委员会西太平洋分委会海洋微塑料国际研究项目、联合国环境署《海洋垃圾热点评估方法》白皮书等多个国际合作项目。同时,中心利用华东师范大学学科专业齐全的优势,组建了一支专业领域涵盖海洋、地理、生态、环境、物理与材料、国际关系、法学、设计学等的多学科研究团队,正在引领全国在海洋塑料与微塑料方面的研究。
     
    Founded in Shanghai in October 1951, East China Normal University (ECNU) is one of the most prestigious universities in China sponsored by the national top university construction programs “Project 211” and “Project 985”. In 2017, ECNU was chosen as one of the 36 Class A universities on the list of Double First Class University Plan released by the central government of China.
    ECNU hosts and treasures the well-known State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC). The laboratory was established by the State Planning Commission of China in 1989 and went into operation in December 1995. SKLEC has been strongly involved in providing solutions to resolve theoretical and practical problems encountered in the very diverse and large scale coastal developments of China, such as a national comprehensive survey on coastal resources, the construction of harbors and ports, channel regulations, the protection of coastal wetlands and the implementation of engineering structures.
    In 2015, The ECNU Plastics Marine Debris Research Center was established. Relying on the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research of ECNU, it is the first basic research platform in China that specializes in marine microplastics monitoring technology, ecological risk assessment, laws and policies and scientific education and public welfare publicity activities related to plastic pollution. The members of the center are currently undertaking a number of national projects such as the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology "Marine Microplastics Monitoring and Ecological Environmental Effect Assessment Technology Research" and the National Natural Science Foundation of China-related marine microplastics research projects. The Marine Science Committee cooperated to establish the "Marine Plastic Fragments and Microplastics Regional Training and Research Center", and presided over the International Marine Microplastics Research Project of the Western Pacific Sub-Committee of the UNESCO Marine Science Committee, and the United Nations Environment Program "Marine litter Hotspot Assessment Methodology" White papers and other international cooperation projects. At the same time, the center has established a multidisciplinary research team covering ocean, geography, ecology, environment, physics and materials, international relations, law, design, etc., by taking advantage of the full range of disciplines and majors of ECNU.
