The National Green Tribunal Monday directed the district magistrate of Ghaziabad to notify it about steps being taken to curb illegal activity in e-waste and lead waste recovery units operating on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had informed the tribunal on February 25 that Interpol and the Central Bureau of Investigation were probing illegal e-waste recovery units operating on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. A joint inspection team from the CPCB, Delhi Pollution Control Committee and the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board had inspected the site and found evidence of hazardous waste generation from illegal recycling of heavy metals and e-waste. It was said hazardous waste generated from lead furnaces and other recycling operations was being dumped in open plots and along the roads.
