On August 13, The City of Lewes has introduced a beach recycling pilot program, placing two new blue receptacles at Johnnie Walker Beach designed to accept only bottles and cans. The initiative, developed by city maintenance staff who also built a special platform to secure the bins, was inspired by student messages submitted during the recent eco footprint tapestry project. Mayor Amy Marasco emphasized that if the pilot is successful, recycling cans will be installed at all city beaches next year. The effort is supported by educational videos and email reminders to help residents recycle correctly—reminding them that food-contaminated containers should be cleaned before recycling or otherwise disposed of in trash cans.
