Consultative Meeting of Suzhou Public Private Partnership for E-waste Collection and Coordinating Meeting of Suzhou Public Private Partnership for E-waste Collection, sponsored by Basel Convention Coordinating Centre in Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China), were held on 13th April 2011 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. More than 70 participants from the academic community and the enterprises attended this meeting. This meeting was a part of UNEP project “Pilot Project on Public Private Partnership for E-waste Collection”, aiming at establishing a platform on public private partnership for e-waste collection, formulating the e-waste stream flowing to the enterprise with dismantle and treatment qualifications, and controlling the e-waste stream flow from the producing source and reducing environmental pollution. In the consultative meeting, the experts made speeches on the schemes of management policies and treatment practices of e-waste and development of Suzhou public private partnership for e-waste collection, and discussed the development plan and implementation scheme of partnership. In the coordinative meeting, delegates from BCRC China, Bureau of Environmental Protection Suzhou, enterprises of e-waste generation and e-waste treatment gave reports on their relative situations on the e-waste management and treatment. Meanwhile, the signature ceremony of “Volunteer and Commitment Letter on Public Private Partnership for E-waste Collection” was carried out by the delegates from BCRC China, 21 e-waste generation enterprises and 5 e-waste treatment enterprises. All the delegates promised undertaking own related responsibilities, promoting regulated recycle and treatment of e-waste generated by enterprises together, and ruling the network of e-waste collection and utilization. These two meetings had great importance at impulsing green flow, treatment, and management of e-waste in Suzhou City, and also created great foundation on future developments and activities on public private partnership for e-waste collection. |
