Reducing Waste Generation of Qatar

National strategies/policies
Qatar National Vision 2030, Environment sector strategy. Industries have been directed and encouraged to recycle and re-use wastes whenever possible. Any newly proposed industrial activity must apply for Environmental Permit; upon operation is required to take a consent to operate, this is the core part of EIA procedure mandated by the environment protection law.
 
Legislation, regulations and guidelines
The Environment Protection law and its executive regulations urge and monitor generators to ensure compliance and of making the continuous effort towards cleaner production and towards minimization of hazardous waste and other wastes. Annual assessment of the efforts is unavoidable via mandated periodic reports to the Ministry of Environment in Qatar.
 
Economy
Tax exempt of waste management equipment and tools. Variable incentives offered to investors in recycling of wastes.
 
Industry
On site waste segregation for reuse, recycle, treatment and for final disposal;
Spent catalysts are sold or given to recycling companies;
Waste oils are collected and taken offsite by contractors for recycling;
BEP and BAT to be applied.
