Reduction of Transboundary Movements of Qatar

Policies
State of Qatar Vision 2030 foresees actions to: Encourage the reuse, recycle and material recovery; Encourage and provide incentives to facilities that receives commonly generated hazardous wastes in Qatar; Strict permitting and monitoring systems; BEP and BAT to be applied Transboundary movements are prohibited in some specific cases.
 
Legislation
According to section 4 and article 24, 25, 26 and 27 of the Law No.30 of 2002 . Also to the Rules on the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Waste, 1997, transboundary movement is prohibited in the following cases: To any destination south of 60o S latitude; To any state which has imposed a ban on the import of such wastes; To any state which cannot provide assurance as to its capacity to dispose of such wastes in an environmentally sound manner. To any state which is not a party to the Basel Convention in the case of a state which is party to a bilateral, multilateral or regional agreement.
 
Economy
The law applies tough fines on violators include prison sentences.
 
Industry
To their best, and monitored by the MOE systems, industries are taking nessecarry actions and measures towards on site minimization, reuse, recycle, recover and exchange wastes before they apply for export. Industries/waste generators are following the Rules on the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes, 1997
