On December 14th, 2022, the 77th United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring March 30th as the "International Day of Zero Waste" and calling for annual commemorative events starting in 2023. The purpose of the day is to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns, support the transition to a circular society, and raise awareness of how the "Zero Waste Initiative" can contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme jointly promote the implementation of the commemorative event and encourage all member states, United Nations agencies, and relevant stakeholders to organize related activities.
With the support of the Department of Solid Waste and Chemicals of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, BCRC China organized a theme of "Building Network of Zero-waste. Promoting Zero-waste city Construction" The event shared the progress of zero-waste city construction in China and the progress of the International Network of Zero-waste Cities Initiative.
