From 29 to 31 March, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China), and the Department of Ecology and Environment of Provincial Government of Zhejiang and Jiangxi jointly organized the "International Day of Zero Waste 2025" thematic event in China. The event, themed "Innovative Solutions for Achieving Zero Waste in China and Beyond", showcased China’s progress in sustainable urban development.
A key online seminar featured six core sessions: opening remarks, global zero-waste initiatives, international best practices for zero-waste cities, monitoring frameworks, textile industry innovations, and closing discussions. Mr. Li Jinhui, Executive Director of BCRC China, highlighted BCRC China’s contributions to over 20 Chinese cities in developing zero-waste strategies across policy, technology, and regulatory systems. He also emphasized regional collaboration, noting that more than 60 international cities have participated in knowledge-sharing initiatives on waste management policies and technologies.
The event amplified China’s zero-waste achievements, facilitated global exchange of best practices, and strengthened international awareness of zero-waste cities as a driver of sustainable urban development.
