BCRC China Participated in Annual Joint Meeting Between the Regional Centres Under the Basel and Stockholm conventions

 On December 5-6, The annual joint meeting to enhance cooperation and coordination between the regional centres under the Basel and Stockholm conventions was held in Geneva. The meeting brought together representatives from 20 Basel and Stockholm Convention Regional and Coordinating Centres, covering all regions. Participants reviewed follow-up to the outcomes of the 2025 Conferences of the Parties, exchanged experience and best practices, and discussed priorities for the coming intersessional period.. Professor Li Jinhui represented BCRC China, sharing work conducted and achievements made since June 2024 in areas including “Zero Waste City”, the development and revision of technical guidelines for waste batteries, plastic waste, chemical management, and training sessions.
During the meeting, the Secretariat presented relevant resolutions concerning the Regional Center from the 2025 Conference of the Parties, progress on Basel Convention partnerships (including the Partnership on E-Waste Challenges, Household Waste Partnership, Plastic Waste Partnership, and the Compliance and Environmental Network for Optimizing the Fight Against Illicit Trafficking), progress on the Stockholm Convention's PCB Elimination Network, the Global Chemical Monitoring Program, and DDT alternatives. It also shared updates on the Mercury Convention's Conference of the Parties, its linkages with the Basel and Stockholm Conventions, and related work at the Seventh United Nations Environment Assembly and the Global Chemicals Framework.
