As an associated event of UNEP for the 2026 IDZW, the hybrid online-offline thematic event entitled “Mobilizing Urban Action for
Global Goals: Towards Zero Food Waste” was held on March 30-31, 2026 (GMT+8). Organized jointly by UNEP, UN-Habitat, BCRC China and the Department of Ecology and Environment of Hainan Province, the programme comprised a webinarand three provincial celebration events held in Sanya (Hainan), Nanchang (Jiangxi) and Qingdao (Shandong), attracting over 3,200 participants from 19 countries.
During the event, BCRC China released the “Outstanding Industrial Cases on China’s ‘Zero-waste City’ Construction.”A total of 109 cases were submitted from 40 cities across 19 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. Following a formal review, domestic expertevaluation and assessmentbyinternational organizations,25English-language caseswereselected as the first batchofrecommended cases for Zero-wasteCity development. Thesecasesinclude 5 cases onhazardouswaste,6 on industrial solidwaste,6onmunicipal solid waste, 4onZero-waste cells, and4inotherfields.
