On June 29, International Training on “Zero Waste City”Construction and High-quality Development along “the Belt and Road” Successfully Kicked Off in Beijing. The training was organized by Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, hosted by Tsinghua University, and co-organized by BCRC China, Shanghai Polytechnic University, BRI International Green Development Coalition and other organizations.
Mr. Dong Qingyin, Chief of Regional Waste Management Branch at BCRC China, presided over the opening ceremony. Mr. Zhang Long, Deputy Director of Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals at Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Tan Quanyin, Chief of General Office at BCRC China, attended the ceremony and delivered opening remarks, respectively. Mr. Zhang Long shared China’s practices, experience and achievements in advancing the construction of “Zero Waste City”. Mr. Tan Quanyin elaborated on the background of this training program and the research foundation BCRC China has built in the construction of “Zero Waste City”. Both speakers expressed gratitude to the organizers and participating institutions for their generous support, and extended a warm welcome to all participants from different countries across the globe.
The training program lasted 15 days and took place in three cities—Beijing, Shanghai, and Suzhou. A total of 20 government officials from relevant solid waste management departments in 11 countries - including Myanmar, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Laos, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Mongolia - were invited to participate. This training program will help further strengthen cooperation between China and countries along the Belt and Road, and promote exchanges between China and these countries in the field of solid waste management and treatment technologies.
