From June 29 to July 13, International Training on “Zero Waste City” Construction and High-quality Development along “the Belt and Road” took place successfully in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou. It was organized by the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, with BCRC China, Shanghai Polytechnic University, the BRI International Green Development Coalition and other institutions serving as co-hosts.
The training attracted 20 government and institutional representatives in the field of solid waste management from 12 countries, including Myanmar, Jordan, and Brazil. On June 29, Mr. Zhang Long, Deputy Director of Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals at Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Tan Quanyin, Chief of General Office at BCRC China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered welcome remarks. The 15-day training program featured lectures by more than 20 industry experts, who shared cutting-edge management experiences and practical achievements on core topics such as “Zero Waste City” development at home and abroad, resource recovery from various types of solid waste, control of emerging pollutants, and the construction of green industrial parks.
During the training, international delegates conducted field visits to circular economy industrial parks, environmental technology companies, and resource recovery sorting centers in multiple locations to gain a comprehensive understanding of China’s technologies for the treatment and disposal of various types of solid waste, as well as the operational models of related facilities. Additionally, the training was held in conjunction with the 21st International Conference on Waste Management and Technology, and participants were organized to attend the inaugural General Assembly of the “International Zero-Waste Cities Network,” helping them connect with global industry resources and gain insights into cutting-edge trends in the field.
This training program established a high-quality platform for international exchange and collaboration on solid waste management and “Zero Waste City” development. It effectively deepened cooperation between China and relevant countries in the field of ecological and environmental protection, building a solid bridge of cooperation to support countries along “the Belt and Road” in developing a circular economy, advancing “Zero-Waste City” initiatives, and achieving ecologically sustainable development.
