From August 23 to 27, at the invitation of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, BCRC China led a four-member delegation to Mongolia, for exchanges on solid waste and chemicals management. The visit aimed to deepen regional environmental cooperation and support green development under the Belt and Road Initiative. The delegation also took part in Green Zone activities at the seventeenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP 17).
The four-member delegation comprised Chen Yuan, Assistant to the Director of BCRC China; Dong Qingyin, Chief of the Regional Waste Management Branch at BCRC China; Wu Yang, Chairman of Shenzhen Lvhuan Renewable Resources Development Co., Ltd.; and Shen Xing, Director of the Solid Waste Treatment and Utilization Committee of the Guizhou Environmental Protection Industry Association. It met with Mongolian government agencies, research institutions, partner laboratories, and environmental companies to discuss solid waste and chemicals management and transboundary movements of hazardous wastes.
During UNCCD COP 17, BCRC China operated an exhibition booth in the Green Zone and, together with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, held a certificate presentation ceremony for seven Mongolian provinces and cities under the International Zero-waste City Network. Officials from the ministry and local governments visited the booth and discussed cooperation on solid waste management and the development of treatment and disposal facilities.
The delegation also met with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia and the Ministry of Energy of Mongolia to review the country's practices and challenges in solid waste sorting and treatment, including waste management in the new energy sector. It shared China's policy experience and technological advances and discussed cooperation on new energy development and resource recovery from industrial solid waste. At several universities and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the delegation explored joint research and technical cooperation on medical waste, resource recovery from solid waste generated by the new energy sector, monitoring of persistent organic pollutants and mercury, and treatment of mining and mineral-processing waste.
To strengthen cooperation between the environmental industries of China and Mongolia, the delegation visited ElectroChem, a Mongolian waste lead-acid battery treatment company, and TML Plastic, a waste plastics treatment company. It reviewed their production equipment, treatment processes, capacity, and applications for recycled products. The parties discussed raw material supply, technology and equipment upgrades, and capacity expansion, and identified how their respective strengths could support cooperation. The visit strengthened links among government agencies, research institutions, and companies in China and Mongolia and provided a basis for further cooperation on solid waste and chemicals management, new energy, and environmental protection.
