Seung-Whee Rhee

Professor Seung-Whee Rhee received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1991. After working as an associate researcher at Louisiana State University, he returned to Korea Environmental Research Institute (KEI) as a researcher in 1993. He has been working at the Department of Environmental Engineering at Gyeonggi University since 1994. He has been the Chief of the Basel Forum in Korea since 2012, sharing knowledge and experience on Basel Convention issues with international experts. Since 2015, Professor Rhee has been a member of the National Council of Science and Technology, Korea, responsible for decision-making in the field of environment and energy, and serves as a scientific expert for the Korean government. He has been president of the Korea Waste Management Society since 2018. Internationally, he serves on the editorial board of international journals such as Journal of Material Cycle and Waste Management (JMCWM). His research interests include e-waste and hazardous waste recycling, bioreactor landfill technology, solid waste and hazardous waste policy and management. Professor Rhee has published more than 200 papers in academic journals and conferences and has applied for 10 patents.
