The Sub-forum will discuss research frontier progress on production of chemicals, materials, energy and other resource products from organic wastes by hydrothermal conversion, and coupling with biotransformation to achieve efficient resource conversion of organic wastes. The specific topics include: (1) Hydrothermal pretreatment of organic wastes; (2) Fuel oil or high value-add chemicals production from organic wastes by hydrothermal conversion; (3) Hydrochar production, functionalization and application from organic wastes by hydrothermal carbonization; (4) Coupling technology of hydrothermal conversion and bioconversion of organic wastes; (5) Coupling treatment technology of hydrothermal conversion with microwave and ultrasonic technologies by organic wastes; (6) Other related topics.

  • Shicheng ZHANG Professor

    Tongji University

    Shicheng Zhang is a professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Fudan University. He is the director of Shanghai Technical Service Platform for Pollution Control and Resource Utilization of Organic wastes, and chairman of the Degree Postgraduate Education Guidance Committee of Resources and Environment Professional major of Fudan University. He is also a think tank expert in the Asia-Pacific Regional Center of the Basel Convention on Chemicals and Waste Environmental Management., a special member of the Academic Committee of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, a vice president of the Solid Waste Resources Branch of the Shanghai Society of Environmental Science. He serves as an associate editor of the academic journal of ‘Environmental Engineering Research’, an editorial board member of ‘Processes’, ‘Biomass’, ‘Environmental Sanitation Engineering’, ‘Energy Environmental Protection’, a consultant expert of ‘Solid Waste Science and Technology’. He mainly engages in the research of organic solid waste pollution control and resources, low carbon green technology, biomass energy and materials. He has published more than 200 papers in core academic journals at home and abroad, such as PNAS, EST, WR, etc.which were cited more than 10000 times by SCI, H index 55, and including 11 highly cited papers by ESI. He has authorized 16 invention patents, and participated in the compilation of 7 monographs. He was awarded the Second Prize of natural science in scientific research of colleges and universities by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (ranked first), the Second Prize of Natural Science in Shanghai (ranked third), and the First Prize of Teaching Achievements in Shanghai (ranked third). He was selected as World's Top 2% Scientists in 2020, 2021, 2022, and High Cited Researcher (1%) in 2023.
  • Zhengang LIU Professor

    Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences

    Zhengang Liu is a Professor at RCEES, Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is Winner of “100-Talents Program” of Chinese Academy of Sciences and appointed as Deputy Director of Laboratory of Solid Waste Treatment and Recycling of RCEES, Member of the Expert Committee of Z-park Green Strategic Alliance of Industrial Technology Innovation for Environment Governance, National Straw Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, Expert in Chemical and Waste Environmental Management Think Tank, editor board member of Sustainable Environment and Invited Editor of Chinese Journal of Environmental Engineering. His research focuses on value-added utilization of solid wastes including conversion of waste biomass to highly-value chemicals and biofuels, detoxification and utilization of hazardous solid wastes, technology R&D of industrial wastes, etc. He has published more than 100 SCI papers in many esteemed journals including Applied catalysis B: Environmental, Environmental Science and Technology, etc., which were cited more than 7000 times by SCI. He has authorized 29 invention patents, and participated in the compilation of 6 solid waste-related monographs. He has awarded First Prize in Science and Technology of China Association of Circular Economy and some scientific research achievements have been applied in practical application.
  • Lingzhao KONG Professor

    Suzhou University of Science and Technology

    KONG Lingzhao, Ph.D., is a professor at Suzhou University of Science and Technology, a doctoral supervisor, a leader in the environmental discipline, and a group leader. He has previously worked in the Chinese Academy of Sciences for 10 years as a PI and doctoral supervisor, and is mainly engaged in the researches in biomass waste recycling, and has presided over 22 projects such as the National Science Foundation of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Municipality, and Shell Corporation, where two of these projects have completed industrial operation. He has published more than 90 academic papers in journals such as ACS Catalysis, Green Chemistry, and AIChE, and authorized 20 invention patents. He has participated in the compilation of a total of 3 Chinese and English books, and was selected as a member of the Youth Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the Microwave Energy Chemical Engineering Committee of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, a visiting professor of Liaoning Shihua University, a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Biomass Conference (EUBCE), a senior member of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and was the youth editorial board of 5 journals including "Green Energy & Environment" and "Biochar". He won the Hou Xianglin Petroleum Processing Science and Technology Award.
