Currently, the global cumulative discharge of phosphogypsum is approximately 6 billion tons, with an annual increase of around 300 million tons. China has already accumulated over 600 million tons of phosphogypsum for landfill disposal, with an annual generation of approximately 75 million tons. However, the comprehensive utilization rate is only around 30%. The large-scale accumulation of phosphogypsum not only occupies land resources but also poses a direct threat to the water environment safety of the Yangtze River Basin due to the presence of water-soluble phosphorus pentoxide and water-soluble fluorine. It has become a significant bottleneck restricting the development of phosphate chemical sector. To implement "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" and strengthen the comprehensive management of phosphogypsum, we will plan to establish a session entitled "Phosphogypsum Comprehensive Utilization and Ecological Restoration Governance" subject the ICWMT 18th. This initiative aims to provide a platform for mutual exchange among renowned domestic and international experts, including extensive academic, policy-making, and industrial representatives. The platform will facilitate sharing of cutting-edge technologies for reducing phosphogypsum at its source and promoting its comprehensive utilization. It will also discuss key technical issues related to the application of phosphogypsum in ecological restoration, soil improvement, municipal engineering, earthwork balance, and other fields. Ultimately, this endeavor seeks to contribute to the high-quality development of the phosphate chemical industry chain and to drive green and sustainable development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
