The second Meeting of Steering Committee of BCRC China was held in School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China on October 24, 2016. Totally 21 participants attended the meeting, including 5 Steering Committee members designated by Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Lao PDR, Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia; 9 observers from United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Tsinghua University and related enterprises; 7 staffs from BCRC China. The representatives from Secretariat of Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions also attended the meeting online through Internet.

Ms. Kerstin Stendahl (Deputy Executive Secretary of Secretariat) online, Mr. Xia Yingxian (Director from Department of International Cooperation of Ministry of Environmental Protection of China), and Mr. Li Jinhui (Executive Director of BCRC China) delivered the welcome address.

 

Activity report, Business Plan 2016-2019, Strategic Plan 2017-2030 of BCRC China and other related issues were presented to the meeting for Steering Committee members to deliberate. Through discussion, the above documents were adopted.

The Steering Committee of BCRC China was established according the <Framework Agreement Between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and The Secretariat of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their disposal on the Establishment of a Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for the Asia and Pacific Region>. It consists of government officials from 4 served Parties of BCRC China, which responsibility is to advise BCRC China on the development and implementation of the activities relevant to its regional role, and exercise general oversight over the operations.
