On September 27, 2019, the Department of Solid Waste and Chemicals, Ministry of Ecology andEnvironment of thePeople’s Republic of China organized the National Workshop on Solid Waste and Chemicals Management in 2020. Representatives from Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Center, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning, Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) of Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and BCRC China were invited to participate in the workshop.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Qiu Qiwen, the Director of Department of Solid Waste and Chemicals, Ministry of Ecology and Environment. It aimed to review the completion of target tasks and related researches on waste and chemicals management in 2019, and to systematically propose the basic ideas, expected goals, key tasks and policy measures for work in 2020. Relevant departments exchanged on the duties of solid waste and chemicals management and the work progress. Professor Li Jinhui, Executive Director of BCRC China, Assistant Director Zhao Nana and Director of General Office Tan Quanyin attended the meeting, and reported on the key work and ideas of the relevant areas of the regional center's functions, such as the implementation of international convention, negotiations, support for domestic solid waste management, regional network platforms, and so on. The work of BCRC China got the affirmation of Mr. Qiu Qiwen.In the next step, BCRC China will continue to provide technical support on implementation of international conventions, take the lead in impact assessment of solid waste import management policies, conduct regional and national researches on chemical, solid waste and heavy metal management strategies, to provide support and services for the environmental sound management of solid waste and chemicals.
