With the support of the State Environment Protection Administration, following the successful holding of the International Conference on Hazardous Waste Management Policy and Treatment and Disposal Technology in 2005, the 2nd International Conference on Waste Management and Technology was held at Tsinghua University in Beijing on July 18-19, 2007. The conference was organized by Tsinghua University, China Solid Waste and Chemical Management Center of the State Environment Protection Administration, the Society of Solid Waste of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and the Hazardous Waste Management Training and Technology Transfer Center of the Ministry of the State Environment Protection Administration, with the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific organizing the event. In addition, the conference was sponsored by Qinyun Science and Technology Alliance Environmental Engineering Co., Ltd. and Tes Shanghai.

Mr. Yuansheng Fan, Director of the Ministry of the State Environment Protection Administration, Professor Gang Yu, Director of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tsinghua University, and Mr. Quan Hao, Director of the the Society of Solid Waste of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, delivered opening remarks for the conference. A total of 33 industry experts, scholars and researchers presented at the conference, and 81 representatives from 7 countries engaged in waste environmental management, treatment and disposal technology research and waste generation entities attended the conference. The conference received more than 60 reports and papers, covering cutting-edge technologies and management research in the fields of solid waste management policies, hazardous waste treatment and disposal technologies, electronic waste treatment technologies, sludge treatment technologies, and urban municipal solid waste.
“Solid Waste Management and Technology” is the theme of this International Conference on Waste Management and Technology, Experts and scholars from different countries delivered reports and exchanged experiences on topics such as solid waste management and technology, economic analysis of solid waste management, solid waste planning, sludge management and treatment technology, ecological design of electronic and electrical products, hazardous waste management and disposal technology, e-waste management and disposal technology, as well as solid waste management related to the Stockholm Convention and Basel Convention. The conference provided an excellent platform for domestic and foreign experts and scholars to understand each other's waste management and technical level, strengthened the exchange of experience and cooperation in the field of solid waste management both domestically and internationally, promoted the implementation of China's "Solid Waste Pollution Prevention and Control Law". It played a positive role in the establishment and development of solid waste treatment and disposal technology and management system suitable for China's national conditions.
After the conference, the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific edited and published the proceedings of the Second International Conference on Waste Management and Technology.
