The 21st International Conference on Waste Management and Technology
In order to systematically review the achievements and experiences of China's 'Zero-waste City' initiative during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, comprehensively plan the high-quality development pathway for 'Zero-waste City' in the 15th Five-Year Plan period, innovatively advance the governance of solid waste and emerging pollutants, and implement the Action Plan for Comprehensive Solid Waste Governance, the 21st International Conference on Waste Management and Technology (ICWMT 21) — jointly organized by Tsinghua University, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, and other institutions, and initiated and hosted by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific — is scheduled to be held in Shanghai, China, from July 4–7, 2026 (Opening Ceremony on the morning of July 5). The conference will bring together more than 500 academicians and distinguished experts, entrepreneurs, and researchers from China and abroad, focusing on the 'Dual Carbon' strategy, 'Zero-waste City' construction, and solid waste and emerging pollutant governance, to build an international platform for policy dialogue and technical exchange, and to foster a collaborative global solid waste governance framework that supports the comprehensive promotion of 'Zero-waste City' construction and the realization of a Beautiful China.
