ICWMT10 Was Successfully Held

The 10th International Conference on Waste Management and Technology was held in Mianyang City, Sichuan Province on October 28-30, 2015. More than 500 delegates from universities, research institutions, enterprises and government departments across 26 countries and regions participated in the conference.

With the theme of "Comprehensively Improve Environmental Quality", the conference was jointly organized by Tsinghua University, Southwest University of Science and Technology, the Technical Center for Solid Waste and Chemicals Management of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity-building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific. It was co-hosted by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, the Key Laboratory of Solid Waste Treatment and Resource Recycling of the Ministry of Education, the Society of Solid Waste of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and the Institute of Solid Waste Pollution Control Technology of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences. Six governments, including the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, the Ministry of Climate Change of Pakistan, the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Laos, the Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism of Mongolia, and the Ministry of Development and Environment of Sri Lanka, served as supporting units.
The opening ceremony of the conference was jointly chaired by the Executive Director of Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, Jinhui Li, and Mr. Shunichi Honda, Project Officer of the International Environmental Technology Centre of the United Nations Environment Programme. Opening speeches were delivered by Jiang Ling, Director of the Center for Solid Waste and Chemicals Management, Ministry of Environmental Protection; Xuehong Yang, Deputy Director of the Environmental Protection Department of Sichuan Province; Shiyuan Yang, Vice President of Southwest University of Science and Technology; Professor Paul Hans Brunner, Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee of the International Conference; and Professor Rainer Stegmann, former Chairman of the International Waste Working Group. Mr. Rolph Payet, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, Mr. Jialin Zhang, Director of the Solid Waste Management Division of the Pollution Prevention and Control Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and Mr. Kaihua Xu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GEM Co., Ltd, delivered keynote speeches.
The conference received a total of 159 papers, with 16 papers selected as outstanding paper. There were 30 presentations in the main sessions and 38 presentations in the sessions. In conjunction with the international conference, six special seminars were held, including the "Regional Chemicals Seminar," the "Sludge Resource Treatment and Disposal Technology Seminar," the "E-Waste Policy and Recycling Seminar," the "Environmental Management from a 3R Perspective Seminar," the "EU-China Waste Fluorescent Lamp Management Policy, Treatment Technology, and Facilities Seminar," and the "Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific Development Fund Project Progress Seminar," with a total of 45 presentations across these seminars. Additionally, site visits were organized to hazardous waste treatment facilities and electronic waste dismantling companies.

The conference also organized the "Asia-Pacific Regional Metal Resource Recycling Public Private Partnership Program" launched by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific and GEM Co., Ltd. and the signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement between the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific and Suez Environment.
Since its inaugural session in 2005, the international conference has adhered to its mission of creating a relaxed and open platform for academic exchange. It is dedicated to providing a space for experts and scholars, as well as industry professionals, engaged in the research of solid waste management and treatment technologies, to articulate scientific concepts, showcase advanced experiences, and seek solutions. Over the past ten years, the conference has developed significantly, gaining increasing recognition internationally and playing an increasingly important role in academic exchanges within the field of solid waste.
