With the support of the State Environmental Protection Administration, the second International Conference on Waste Management and Technology was held at Tsinghua University in Beijing on July 18-19, 2007，following the successful holding of the International Conference on Hazardous Waste Management Policy and Treatment and Disposal Technology in 2005. The conference was organized by Tsinghua University, the Solid Waste Management Center of Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, the Solid Waste Branch of the Chinese Society For Environmental Sciences and the Hazardous Waste Management Training and Technology Transfer Center of Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, and the Basel Convention Regional Coordination Center for Asia and the Pacific undertook the organization work. In addition, the conference was also sponsored by Qinyun Science and Technology Alliance Environmental Engineering Co., Ltd. and Tes-Amm Shanghai.

Mr. Yuansheng FAN, Director of the Pollution Control Department of Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, Professor Gang YU, Director of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tsinghua University, and Mr. Hao QUAN, Director of the Solid Waste Branch of the Chinese Society For Environmental Science, addressed the opening ceremony of the conference. 33 industry experts, scholars and researchers gave reports on the conference, and 81 representatives from 7 countries engaged in solid waste environmental management, treatment and disposal technology research and waste generation units attended the conference. The conference received a total of more than 60 reports and papers, involving solid waste management policies, hazardous waste treatment and disposal technology, electronic waste treatment technology, sludge treatment technology and municipal solid waste and other solid waste field of cutting-edge technology and management research.

Waste Management and Technology is the theme of this International Conference on Waste Management and Technology, Experts and scholars from different countries have published reports on solid waste management and technology, economic analysis of solid waste management, solid waste planning, sludge management and treatment technology, ecological design of electronic and electrical products, hazardous waste management and treatment and disposal technology, e-waste management and treatment and disposal technology, solid waste management of the Stockholm Convention and Basel Convention, etc. The conferencec provided a good platform for domestic and foreign experts and scholars to understand each other's solid waste management and technical level, strengthened the exchange of experience and cooperation in the field of solid waste at home and abroad, promoted the implementation of China's "Solid Waste Pollution Prevention and Control Law", and played a positive role in the establishment and development of solid waste treatment and disposal technology and management system suitable for China's national conditions.

After the conference, the Basel Convention coordinating Center for Asia and the Pacific edited and published the proceedings of the second International Conference on Waste Management and Technology.
