The Seventh International Conference on Waste Management and Technology was held in Xijiao Hotel, Beijing from September 5 to 7, 2012. About 450 representatives from research institutes, enterprises and government departments from more than 30 countries attended the conference.
The conference was organized by Tsinghua University, the Solid Waste Management Centre of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, the United Nations Environment Programme and the Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity-building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific, and was hosted by the Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for Asia and the Pacific and the Solid Waste Branch of the Chinese Society For Environmental Sciences.
环境保护部污染防治司李蕾副司长、清华大学环境科学与工程研究院院长郝吉明院士、联合国环境署Heidelore Fiedler女士在大会开幕式上致辞。李蕾副司长及中国工程院钱易院士在大会上分别就中国固体废物管理经验及开发城市矿产，发展循环经济做了主旨演讲；联合国环境规划署Donald Cooper先生、日本JSWME固体管理协会主席Shinichi Sakai教授、环境保护部污染防治司固体废物管理处钟斌处长、环保部固体废物管理中心胡华龙博士等48位国内外知名专家和学者分别就固体废物管理与技术的发展趋势、循环经济和城市矿产的利用、国内外电子废物的处理技术和行业发展以及城市废物、农村废物、危险废物、工业废物、市政固体废物和污泥的管理及处理处置等议题发表了精彩的报告。
Ms. Lei LI, Deputy Director General of the Pollution Control Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, Academician Jiming HAO, Dean of the Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tsinghua University, and Ms. Heidelore Fiedler from the United Nations Environment Programme addressed the opening ceremony of the conference. Deputy Director Lei LI and Academician Yi QIAN of the Chinese Academy of Engineering gave keynote speeches on China's solid waste management experience and the development of urban mineral resources and the development of circular economy. Mr. Donald Cooper, United Nations Environment Programme, and Mr. Shinichi, President, JSWME Solid Management Association, Japan Professor Sakai, Director Bin ZHONG of the Solid Waste Management Division of the Pollution Prevention Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and Dr. Hualong HU of the Solid Waste Management Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China and other 48 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad respectively discussed the development trend of solid waste management and technology, circular economy and utilization of urban minerals, domestic and foreign e-waste treatment technology and industry development, and urban waste, rural waste, and urban waste. Excellent reports were issued on the management, treatment and disposal of hazardous waste, industrial waste, municipal solid waste and sludge.
A total of 120 full-text academic papers were received at this conference. "Proceedings of the Seventh International Conference on Waste Management and Technology" will be published in full by Elsevier Press and submitted to EI and ISTP for search.
