Professor Geng is a chair professor, winner of the National Outstanding Youth Scientist Fund, Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education of PRC, winner of the Special Allowance of the State Council of PRC. He is one of the lead authors of assessment report 5 and 6 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR5, AR6), visiting fellow of the Institute of Higher Studies of the United Nations University and the National Expert of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. His major research interests include resource and environmental management, industrial ecology, circular economy, climate change policy, emerge theory, water resources planning and management. Professor Geng and his environmental management research team have been engaged in the research of low-carbon development, climate change and economics, as well as energy and climate policy. He is currently hosting three key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one China's National Science and Technology Key R&D project. He is the Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
