Anupam Khajuria

Research Fellow

Dr. Anupam Khajuria is a Research Fellow and Academic Associate with the Innovation and Education Programme at UNU-IAS. Her expertise is in environmental research with an emphasis on waste and water management. Having earned her PhD in Environmental Engineering from Osaka University in 2010, Dr. Khajuria's research has focused on enhancing waste management systems across South Asian countries, employing the DPSIR (Driving Force-Pressure-State-Impact-Response) analytical framework. During her tenure as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Tokyo Institute of Technology between 2012 and 2014, she contributed significantly to the project aimed at the long-term vision for the sustainable use of the world's freshwater resources. Prior to joining UNU-IAS, Dr. Khajuria worked as a researcher at the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD)-DSDG/UN DESA in Nagoya, Japan, for almost 10 years. She was managing three projects at UNCRD: Promotion of 3R and Circular Economy in Asia and the Pacific Region, International Partnership for Expanding Waste Management Services of Local Authorities (IPLA) — an SDG Partnership, and State of 3R in Asia and the Pacific. She also coordinated several training programs, forums, conferences and seminars with national and international governmental organizations. Dr. Khajuria has extensive knowledge and experience in conducting environmental research projects, and has published a number of research articles in peer-reviewed international journals in the environmental sciences domain, with a focus on waste and water engineering, circular economy and sustainable development. She has been associated with several environmental and scientific societies, and contributes to the editorial boards of academic journals such as Circular Economy, International Journal of Development and Sustainability, and Circular Economy of Frontier in Sustainability.
