Dr Atiq Zaman is an Associate Professor at the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute, School of Design and the Built Environment, Western Australia, specialising in circular economy and zero waste practices.
Dr Zaman plays several academic and professional leadership roles, including the Curtin Node Leader for the Australian National Environmental Science Program (NESP2) on Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub (SC&W), funded by the Commonwealth Government. He is the Circular Economy Research and Theme Leader of the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc) and the Curtin Institute of Energy Transition, respectively. He is a member of the UN Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition (CEET), an independent advisory council to the United Nations Secretary-General. He is also a Steering Committee Member of the Circular Economy Western Australia.
As a zero-waste expert, he was invited to the COP27 UN Official Side Event on “Just Transition to Zero Waste Cities: A Key Strategy to Deliver the Paris Agreement” in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt (2022), and he also attended the COP28 event to represent UN CEET and Curtin University.
