Yuzhong WANG

Academician/Professor
Wang Yuzhong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE, Division of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering), is a distinguished polymer materials expert. He currently serves as a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Sichuan University (SCU), concurrently holding the position of Director of the National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Environment-Friendly Polymer Materials and serving as the Academic Leader of the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering (SKLPME) at Sichuan University. He is Vice President of the Chinese Materials Research Society, Honorary President of the China Flame Retardant Society, and recognized as a national strategic scientist in the fields of eco-materials and solid waste resource utilization.
 
Academician Wang Yuzhong has dedicated his career to pioneering research in polymer recycling and waste valorization. His key contributions include:
 
Innovating high-efficiency recovery and chemical regeneration technologies for polymeric waste (e.g., waste textiles, e-waste plastics), overcoming limitations of traditional physical recycling.
 
Pioneering integrated biodegradable and flame-retardant polymeric materials that reduce plastic pollution at source while enhancing waste material safety.
 
Establishing a systematic full life-cycle management system for polymeric waste encompassing "design-usage-recycling-regeneration", enabling low-carbon, high-value utilization of solid waste from electronics, packaging, and other sectors.
 
He has led over 30 national research initiatives, including Major Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and National Key R&D Programs. As first completer, he received:
 
Two Second Prizes of the National Technology Invention Award (2006, 2019)
 
One Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (2013)
 
China's Innovation Excellence Award and over 10 other national honors
 
He spearheaded the development of multiple national standards for polymer waste recycling. His technologies have been implemented in solid waste processing lines of leading enterprises like Haier and Gree, advancing urban plastic pollution control and national resource circularity strategies.
