Developing a guidance Document on Inventories of PCBs

According to the second meeting of  the Advisory Committee for the Stockholm Convention PCBs Elimination Network (“PEN”) held from 29 November to 1 December 2010 in Jamaica, the thematic group on inventory of PCBs should develop a guidance document on equipment and wastes containing PCBs for AC-3. The Executive Secretary, Prof. Li Jinhui attended the second meeting and acts as the chair of thematic group on inventory of PCBs.

According to the agreement between the Secretariat and SCRCAP, SCRCAP will take charge of the document development of the guidance on PCBs inventory. And SCRCAP has started the work and organized experts group to draft the guideline. We have invited Mr. Zhu Jianxin, the Associate Professor of Chinese Academy of Science, to work as the leader in the experts group. And Mr. Urs Wagner will support this work.

SCRCAP shall perform the following tasks:

1. Development of a guidance document on PCBs inventory

• Compile existing guidance and guidelines on PCBs inventory, update the contents where possible.
• Develop a guidance document on PCBs inventory including standardized inventory procedures based on experiences, lessons learned, and existing guidelines on PCBs inventories, taking into account regional variations.

2. Compilation of information to be used for fact sheets and pocket guides for raising public awareness on PCBs inventory
